 There are several active groups at the Department of Biotechnology, working in various research fields. The professional qualification and expertise of the Department members generate significant success in attracting funding by national and international scientific programmes for the realization of numerous projects in the fields of biotechnology, food technology, food quality and safety, education, and establishment ofsustainable expert networks.

The main scientific objectives of the Department include the generation of basic research data and their transformation into applied technologies, and the better understanding of biological systems for future technological applications.

The department has developed collaborative relationships with other universities and research organizations, and with a number of companies from the biotechnology and food industries, and with regulatory and control authorities. We work closely with major food and bioproduct producing and trade companies in the country.
